Dune: Messiah Cover

Painting for the cover of Dune: Messiah depicting Alia Atreides in ceremonial garb as the head of the empire’s religious wing. Her rites and rituals strengthen the symbolism around her brother and Emperor of the Known Universe, Paul Muad’Dib, whose adopted name is the Fremen term for desert mouse. The final illustration won the Bronze Award in the Book category for Illustration West 62.

Mouse is painted in metallic gold oil paint, and looks a bit darker or lighter than these photos depending on the angle of the light.
